In this review, we discuss the recent progress on flexible PV technologies from materials to the module systems. The important aspects to consider are the materials (metal and transparent electrodes), manufacturing methods, and combinations of interlayers to realize flexible PV devices.

Flexible solar cells have a lot of market potential for application in photovoltaics integrated into buildings and wearable electronics because they are lightweight, shockproof and self-powered.

Here we report a combined approach to improving the power conversion efficiency of silicon heterojunction solar cells, while at the same time rendering them flexible.

Flexible PV panels can find application as building-integrated PV (BIPV) by replacing the construction materials in new buildings (e.g., roof and façades) and, more interestingly, as building-applied PV for retrofitting existing buildings and improving their energy efficiency.
