If you currently own a home or building with a sprayed polyurethane foam (SPF) roofing system and would like to install a PV solar system, there are a couple of ways this can be done, however the best way is to re-spray the areas where the solar standoffs have been installed with SPF.

The first step in planning your solar panel installation is to evaluate your roof’s condition and suitability. In the Northern Hemisphere, a south-facing roof pitched between 30 and 45 degrees is considered ideal for solar panels. Your roof should be in good condition and able to support the additional weight.

Now that we’ve covered the basics of connecting solar panels to a roof, it’s time to find a place for the panels. The most obvious feature we’re looking for is large, uninterrupted roof space. Bigger chunks of roof are easier, and cheaper, to install solar panels.

In this guide, we will provide you with a step-by-step process on how to install solar panels on your home roof. Additionally, we will explore the benefits of solar panel installation, pre-installation considerations, required components, the installation process itself, and whether a permit is needed.
