This paper primarily aims to explore and discuss PWM schemes for effectively controlling the 3L-NPC qZSI for PV systems by understanding the basic operation principle of both the inverter itself and PWM schemes.

Intensive efforts have been made to articulate the strategies of eliminating or reducing harmonics distortions generated due to output of this conversion. This study aims to investigate the causes of harmonics in PV Inverters, effects of harmonics, mitigation techniques & recent integration requirements for harmonics.

PV inverter configurations are discussed and presented. A basic circuitry and a detailed analysis of the most commonly used grid-connected multi-level inverter (GCMLI) topologies and their MT.

A half-wave cycloconverter operates under zero-voltage switching to down-convert the high-frequency AC current, yielding unity-power-factor output current at line frequency. This cycloconverter, which is new to the authors’ knowledge, provides smaller total device drop than conventional bidirectional-blocking-switch.

This paper provides a systematic classification and detailed introduction of various intelligent optimization methods in a PV inverter system based on the traditional structure and typical control. The future trends and research topics are given to provide a reference for the intelligent optimization control in the PV system.
