Here we show that, in Kolkata, city-wide installation of these rooftop photovoltaic solar panels could raise daytime temperatures by up to 1.5 °C and potentially lower nighttime temperatures.

Thus, the effective rooftop area available for PV solar systems was determined to be approximately 2,340,500 ft2. Arizona’s ample amount of solar radiation (see Fig. 1) coupled with a large area of flat and well maintained rooftops creates an opportunity for the City of Phoenix to install a significant amount of PV.

Under the trends towards large-scale utilization of renewable energy in cities, Distributed Solar Photovoltaic (DSPV) systems installed on roof-tops are gradually attracting more attention as a solution for urban building renovations in China. For a mega city, strategically planning the deployment of numerous scattered DSPV systems is essential .

Building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) technology is one of the most promising solutions to harvest clean electricity on-site and support the zero carbon transition of cities. The combination of BIPV and green spaces in urban environments presents a mutually advantageous scenario, providing multiple benefits and optimized land usage.
