Working principle of photovoltaic panels
At a high level, solar panels are made up of solar cells, which absorb sunlight. They use this sunlight to create direct current (DC) electricity through a process called "the photovoltaic effect.".

Working Principle: The working of solar cells involves light photons creating electron-hole pairs at the p-n junction, generating a voltage capable of driving a current across a connected load.
A PV cell is made of materials that can absorb photons from the sun and create an electron flow. When electrons are excited by photons, they produce a flow of electricity known as a direct current.
We can summarize the working of solar panels into the following points:Solar panels absorb sunlight to produce electrical energy. The inverter converts the absorbed energy into useful electricity. The generated electricity is supplied to the AC breaker panel of the home. And surplus electricity flows to the utility grid via the net meter.
Simply put, a solar panel works by allowing photons, or particles of light, to knock electrons free from atoms, generating a flow of electricity, according to the University of Minnesota Duluth.
